Bowamns is advising OLX in relation to copyright and trademark infringement both in Kenya and in India. OLX is the largest online classifieds business in East Africa and various competitors have begun to take up the same content and reproduce it illegally on competing classifieds sites. In India, Bowmans was able to track one of these competitors running a competing site, pigiame, and issue the relevant demands to cease the infringement. In Kenya, we had to file suit to obtain injunctive orders against The Star, one of Kenya’s leading news groups, to stop the infringement taking place on their site. The ultimate decision issued by the Kenyan High Court on The Star matter found them in contravention and our client was granted the injunction sought.
