According to Chambers Bowmans team consists of trusted legal specialists facilitating a thriving technology, media and telecommunications future in Africa.
- Overview
The agile, rapidly evolving and complex landscape of the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly within Africa.
Our extensive experience of the regulatory environment across the continent, comprehensive industry knowledge and deep understanding of both ‘traditional’ and new and disruptive technologies enable us to provide our clients with sophisticated, tailored and pragmatic advice.
We form lasting partnerships with our clients – who are already operating in or who are looking to enter the African market – to leverage these technologies, ensuring full regulatory compliance and successfully navigating any potential legal, commercial and practical implications.
We are immersed within the regulatory and market developments and trends, both in Africa and globally, and provide incisive insight into transactions in the sector; licensing, approval and compliance requirements; and market, policy and legislative developments.
In consistently advising on significant transactions within the TMT sector, we have developed a deep understanding of key concerns relating to investment, entrance, innovation, deployment and continued operation. We have also forged close relationships with government agencies and industry regulators in the TMT sector, which is a significant factor in our ability to provide exceptional advice to our clients regarding the environments in which they operate.
We also assist in a wide array of commercial agreements that take into account technology, media and telecommunications requirements. These range from all forms of infrastructure sharing arrangements, to fibre optic network deployments (on an EPC, EPCM, BOT or simple design build basis), to system integration, software development, software or platform licensing and IT services (in all forms including outsourcing).
Our TMT expertise has been ranked in the top band by Chambers & Partners since 2008. Our cross-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary team also includes leading practitioners proficient in cyber and IT security, privacy and data protection, consumer protection, product and platform liability, e-commerce, electronic transacting and fintech, judicial review proceedings, legislative drafting, constitutional law, administrative law and competition law.
