Overview

Juané is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of Namibia in October 2018 and is also a notary public.

She works at the Firm’s coastal office in Swakopmund. Her primary focus is on general civil litigation in the High Court and Magistrates Court, employment law (including the representation of parties in arbitration proceedings before the Office of the Labour Commissioner), wills and estates, and contract disputes. She further conducts liquor license applications and assist clients with the annual renewal of their liquor licenses.

Experience

* Experience prior to joining Bowmans

  • Assisted in arbitrations before the Labour Commissioner on behalf of mines and ports.
  • Litigated in the High Court on the rights of pharmacists to compound medicine and the legality of regulations limiting such right established under an Act of Parliament. Compounded medicine fills a crucial void in Namibia and gives the public access to cost effective medicine.
  • She has also advised on the statutory reporting obligations of mines in respect of exposure to high levels of hazardous substances, and on environmental laws, permits, and licenses applicable to mining operations.
  • Advised petroleum companies on the legal standing of NGO’s and other civil rights organisations to challenge governmental decisions with regard to licenses under statutory environmental law
  • Advised corporate clients on the affirmative action obligations of an employer.
  • Presented a presentation on the law of Last Wills and Testaments and succession from a Namibian point of view in collaboration with other Southern African countries to employees of a company trading across Southern Africa.
