Ibrahim has experience in a wide range of technology, media & telecommunications matters; data protection and privacy assignments; FinTech regulatory and compliance; as well as IP prosecution and IP litigation matters. He has advised and continues to advise diverse clients with interests at local, regional and international levels.
Experience
TMT & Regulatory Work
- Regularly advising a global tech giant with respect to various product launches as well as legislative and regulatory inquiries across Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Providing ‘launch advice’ to various tech companies and start-ups (in FinTech, media, pharma sectors et cetera) seeking to roll-out products and/or launch services in the Kenyan market.
- Providing telecommunications licensing and compliance advice as well as regulatory engagement support to several local and international telecommunication companies.
- Providing regulatory advice and support to several confidential clients with respect to virtual currencies, virtual currency exchanges, digital tokens, crypto wallets, and crypto securities in Kenya.
- Conducting country diligence for different globally renowned tech giants regarding the potential launch of several products and services in Kenya.
- Regularly acting for the Jack Ma Foundation in connection with its flagship philanthropic programme in Africa (ABH) including in platform documentation, media distribution agreements, partner agreements, sponsor arrangements, intellectual property protection, and data privacy advice.
- Advising for the developer of a renowned multi-platform browser on engagements with multiple regulators regarding and advertisement feature of their browser.
- Regularly advising start-ups in various sectors, in collaboration with a leading early-stage investor and start-up incubator, with respect to the different regulatory requirements applicable to their setting up and operating in Kenya.
- Providing various pieces of advice to clients operating the gambling sector including various regulatory engagements on the clients’ behalf.
- Providing regulatory advice to clients operating in the pharmaceutical industry (including providers of telemedicine services).
Privacy
- Advising various clients, both local and international, on data protection compliance requirements in Kenya, including but not limited to providing; compliance advice, review and drafting of necessary policies, registration with the regulator, assistance with data breach response, and general regulatory engagements.
IP & Anti-Counterfeit
- Acting for various clients, both local and international, with respect to; registration and maintenance of their intellectual property rights both within and outside Kenya, as well as representing the clients in contentious proceedings taking place before intellectual property regulatory bodies in Kenya (direct representation) and outside Kenya (through a network of agents).
- Regularly acting for a multinational corporation specializing in optical, imaging, and industrial products with respect to the monitoring of the listing of its products on e-commerce sites in Kenya and liaising with the relevant regulators in combatting counterfeit listings.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDip – Law) from the Kenya School of Law.
- Ibrahim also has professional qualifications in arbitration and holds various roles in multiple international arbitration interest groups.
