Angela Simpson is a partner in our M&A Practice in Johannesburg.

Angela has 25 years of experience in public and private corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions, including in the private equity and venture capital industry.

She works across sub-Saharan Africa, spanning numerous sectors including financial services, logistics, food and agriculture, mining, fast moving consumer goods, telecommunications, technology and renewable energy.

Experience

Angela has advised:

  • Sango Capital, a pan African investment firm, investing in funds and direct investments on the African continent, in its acquisition of Neopak Holdings from Ethos.
  • Alterra Capital Partners Limited on its disposal, on behalf of the Carlyle Group, of south African security equipment firm Amecor to the Assa Abloy Group.
  • Mahlako Energy Fund and Thirdway Investment Partners on the acquisition, through Mahlako Gas Energy Proprietary Limited, of a minority stake in Tetra4, a South African subsidiary of Renergen Limited. Tetra4 holds South Africa’s first and only onshore petroleum production right and is the entity developing the Virginia Gas Project to produce liquid Helium and liquified natural gas.
  • Spartan Truck Hire on the acquisition of Leopard Transport Limited (trading as Elite Truck Hire) from Caribel Proprietary Limited and a range of funds managed by Medu Capital.
  • CSSAF Holdings I, a private equity investment vehicle managed by the Carlyle Group, IAPFEF JJ Limited, a private equity investment vehicle managed by Ethos Private Equity, the founder shareholders and management shareholders (through TFL Trustees Limited) in their disposal to Imperial Logistics, of their entire interest in the J&J Group, the largest integrated logistics operator on Mozambique’s Beira corridor, for ZAR 4.4 billion.
  • Actis on the South African aspects of its disposal, together with Mainstream Renewable Power, of Lekela Power to Infinity Group and Africa Finance Corporation for USD 1.5 billion. This transaction was awarded Dealmakers Private Equity Deal of the Year in 2023.
  • RCL Foods Limited on the disposal of Vector Logistics to AP Moller. This transaction has been shortlisted for Dealmakers Private Equity Deal of the year 2023.
  • Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Limited in the establishment of its ZAR 1.1 billion B-BBEE employee incentive scheme.
  • Thebe Investment Corporation on its confidential debt and equity restructuring
